The Amalgamated Family of Companies would like to express our condolences to the family of Harvey Charles Sigelbaum, former President of Amalgamated Life Insurance Company from 1979 - 1995.
Harvey embodied the spirit of a true New Yorker and was an endearing figure to all those whose paths crossed his. While with Amalgamated Life and several other companies in the insurance and benefits arena, Harvey was a generous business leader holding C-level and other executive roles. He was appointed by former President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve on the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and held many board positions for numerous not-for-profit and for-profit organizations.
Harvey proudly shared his family history. When he wasn’t sharing pastrami sandwiches from Manhattan’s 2nd Avenue Deli, he was sharing stories about his beloved family. He grew up between Newark, NJ and Toronto, Canada, but spent nearly 70 years in Manhattan where he and his wife raised their four children, who gave them ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A consummate storyteller, his family were always the central figures in his life.
His inner circle, often referred to as the FOH (Friends of Harvey) would echo the same thing – that Harvey couldn’t have been a better family man and friend. We at Amalgamated could not agree more.
